Introducing our embroidery kit!

Welcome to Cosy Craft Club's embroidery month! We really want to encourage you to have a go at embroidery yourself, and we'll be sharing the key things you need to know to get started. You can find all our embroidery posts in one place here.

Here at Cosy Craft Club we send our subscribers a kit with everything they need to try a different craft each month. This month, it's an embroidery kit!

Our embroidery kit is from Jenny Blair, and it’s this gorgeous bee design. It will teach you the 6 most common embroidery stitches, while you create a beautiful piece to hang on your wall. Here is a look at the outside of the kit…

…and this is what you get inside! As you can see, there is an embroidery hoop, pre-printed fabric, needle, embroidery threads and instructions. The instructions take you through how to form each type of stitch needed, and where to stitch what!

As a complete beginner to embroidery, I was keen to get going. I started with the hexagons, which I found to be really straightforward, but very effective. It turns out that I am quite a slow embroiderer! (But then I am generally quite a slow person anyway!) I spent ages trying to make sure my needle came up exactly where I wanted it on each stitch.

The French knots were the hardest bit! I found the video in Jenny Blair’s stitch library really useful to see how they are formed, but it was still really difficult to make them all vaguely even and tight (as you can tell from this photo).

Ta-daa! Here is the finished embroidery. I have to admit I absolutely loved making it, and I’m a little bit in love with the finished piece too. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy embroidery but it was much easier than I thought it would be, and so beautiful. This won’t be the last embroidery I do!
