Welcome to the Cosy Craft Club's DIY skincare month! We really want to encourage you to have a go at making your own skincare, and we'll be sharing the key things you need to know to get started. You can find all our DIY skincare posts in one place here.

Today we're taking a look at our DIY skincare kit from Nature Knows Better! As we are becoming increasingly aware of the chemicals that we use on a daily basis, it's great to know that it's actually very easy to make your own skincare products from natural ingredients. Our kit makes gorgeous lip balm and hand cream that you will love to use! The kit comes beautifully presented in this bag:

And if you squint through the organza, you get a hint of all the lovely ingredients inside!

Laying them out here, you can see everything that you get inside the kit, including plenty of each ingredient and lots of pots to put your finished products in. You could even give the things you've made as gifts!

Another lovely thing about using these natural ingredients is that they are all food grade, so you can use your kitchen implements to make them! Below you can see my setup for making the lip balm.

One thing that really surprised me about this kit was how fast it was to make each product. You can easily make a small batch in 10 minutes!

Each product is essentially made by gradually heating oil and wax pellets until the wax melts and then mixing in the other ingredients. The instructions suggested you could use a bowl over a simmering pan of water for the heating stage, but I chose the other option and pulsed them in the microwave in 30 second intervals. After 4 or 5 pulses the wax had melted and I was ready to follow the final steps in each case.

Both products came together really quickly and easily, and I was surprised how little of the ingredients are used in each batch. This means that you can use the kit several times over to make the products again as you use them up.

Here is my finished hand cream! It’s rich and smooth and feels lovely on my hands :)
