Welcome to the Cosy Craft Club's air dry clay month! We really want to encourage you to have a go at working with clay, it’s so fun! You can find all our air dry clay posts in one place here.

We love to meet the makers behind our kits, and today we are getting to know Nikki from London Wildflower who created our lovely air dry clay kit!

Please can you introduce yourself!

Hi! I’m Nikki and I’m the founder of London Wildflower. I’m something of a ceramics addict and have a small London-based studio where I craft, create and host pottery sessions.

How did you get into clay craft?

I’ve always been a crafter, enjoying pretty much any artistic activity from sewing to metalwork! Though I’ve loved expanding my craft repertoire over the years, clay has been my constant and something that I’ve always loved working with!

What do you enjoy about it?

For me, clay is such a special medium to work with. Natural clays are so tactile and easy to manipulate, it’s easy to completely lose yourself whilst working with them. I often spend hours moulding, forming and carving, slowly forming something that is completely unique. Many students often feel the same in my ceramics sessions and are surprised when they realise that hours have passed by!

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on lots of new plant pots to house my ever-expanding collection of plant babies!

What is your favourite thing that you have made?

I find it so hard to pick a favourite! However I do have some bowls that look a little like artichokes which hold a special place in my heart! I created them using air dry clay, painted them with black and gold paint, then coated in resin so that they have a lovely shine to them.

What kind of things can you use air dry clay for?

There are an infinite number of possibilities! I love browsing Pinterest for new ideas, but some of my favourites include incense holders, wall hangings and ring bowls.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I’m often inspired by nature - I love natural forms and often use items such as leaves and flowers to imprint into my designs.

What are your top tips for someone who is starting to learn to work with clay?

Don’t be too troubled about making a ‘perfect’ piece! A symmetrical or linear piece can be tricky when starting out with hand building - instead I’d suggest choosing to make something that allows for imperfections and for you to experiment with.

Can you tell us one random fact about yourself?

I’m a (non-practising) Barrister!

Thanks Nikki! I love that she’s a barrister too :)
