What is bargello?

Bargello is a fun and easy-to-pick-up type of needlepoint craft. It uses tapestry wool in straight stitches to build the design. Originating in Italy in the 17th century, bargello made a comeback in the 70s, which introduced bright and groovy patterns, and it is back again with modern designs.

What you'll make

Working with tapestry wool and a pre-printed canvas, you'll follow the included pattern to build up a bright floral design using straight stitches in graduating colours. The rhythm of bargello is part of what makes it so enjoyable - once you've got the hang of the stitch, it's wonderfully meditative. When your stitching is complete, you'll finish the piece by attaching the wooden dowels, leaving you with a beautiful, ready-to-hang piece of wall art.
